Part 2

Now time for the defense.....

Defensive Line

The defensive line as a unit looks better as an overall unit so far then last years squad. Thats hard to believe after losing Fowler but hang with me. The line itself is deeper, communicating better and there is talent everywhere. Let me put it this way no matter what kind of mixture of personnel they put out there it just seems to work. They are meeting the running back at the line and getting in the backfield. This line will probably lead the league in sacks knowing what type of secondary they have behind them. CECE is the Dline version of Ivey, gives great effort every play. Watch out for Zuniga, he has got a mean streak in him that you love to see in a Dlineman, great motor. Just know that these guys got great chemistry.

Linebackers

Nothing special to report here. Just know as a group some days they are great, some days they are good, and some they are average. Making them a solid group in his opinion. Sometimes it looks as if they know they are sandwiched between a great dline and quite possibly the best secondary in college football this year. Then they just go and play and they shine at times. Davis hits like a damn sledge hammer. Anzalone has better instincts then what people give him credit for (maybe it just only works at practice for him) and Morrison seems to be moving real well but is still no contact and is a very good vocal leader.

Secondary

This will be the best secondary in college football this year no questions asked (knock on wood). He said if its 3 and 8 or more the other team might as well punt. VH3 is still pissing excellence every morning, Neal has looked awesome in practice, and has really developed a nose for the football. Maye seems as if he has worked on his man coverage skills and is still a beast in the box. Tabor is pretty much VH3 JR and Duke Dawson could play any position in a pinch but is the best at safety. All you need to know, is that there is nothing to worry about with this group except injuries (knock on wood).

Defensive philosophy

They have been running a lot of 5-2-4 and 4-2-5. Quite possibly to take advantage of having an elite secondary and a damned good Dline and to also hide the depth problem at linebacker. Collins loves to blitz. Randy Shannon is a very vocal coach.

Special teams

Hardin kicked 30 field goals today and only missed one. Townsend is good but a small step down from Christy. Didn't have anything to say about coverage units.

Said Powell has gotten the majority of kick returns with D-Rob getting a couple here and there and VH3 is handling punt returns.

That is all for today. If I get anything else worth sharing in the future I will post asap.

Go Gators!
