So the school, who doesn't cut coaches checks, couldn't afford Chavis? Did he want to be an Econ professor or something?

I don't really know or care how they pay coaches in Texas, but here, in this state, the AD and various athletic funds pay coaches, not the university.
The AD then turns around and donates millions to the university annually. Why? Because LSU has one of the richest fricking athletic departments in the country.
