I wouldn't call Sherman unlucky. Blowing 1 second half lead is unlucky. Blowing 5 in a row or whatever it was is the mark of a bad coach.

Perhaps I should have said "unsuccessful" instead of "bad". Because the idea is that after the good coach leaves, you get the truly bad coach who destroys the program, and then it takes at least 1 coach's tenure to build it back up and fix the wounds, but it usually isn't enough to save their job.

I'll edit the rule.

Now Chris Warren's MOM is pouring gasoline on the tire fire.

Whether Washington reaches the six win plateau and earns a bowl berth might not be what Husky fans should be focused on for the rest of the 2015 season. Charlie Strong has come under intense scrutiny as the head coach at the University of Texas this season, following the firing of Athletic Director Steve Patterson.

Strong, known for his Chris Petersen-esq emphasis on character and academics, has struggled to control his locker room over the past couple weeks. Texas defensive back Kris Boyd retweeting a Tweet about transferring to Texas A&M during halftime of the Longhorns-Horn Frogs game was the first crack in the wall.

With pressure from the boosters and fan base, and a continued loss of his locker room, Strong might not be able to get the time he needs to rebuild the Longhorns football program. If that does indeed happen Washington would become a first-choice destination for one current UT running back.
The two programs went head-to-head for Chris Warren, a four-star running back from Rockwall High School (Tex.) with a coin-flip deciding his signature. His mother, K’Tara Lopez, nor Warren are afraid of transferring from UT if things don’t get turned around.

“Christopher will not play for a coach that does not place academics, the development of a young man’s foundation (character) and enforcement of proper conduct on and off the field at a very high level,” Lopez told Realdawg.com in an exclusive interview Monday. “We are not timid about the transfer process like others are.”

Lopez described the current situation as “a wait and see stage” while clarifying she does believe Strong is still the right coach for the job. There is no plan to make an immediate transfer from Austin, but if the season doesn’t finish well there could be a change.

While not directly commenting on which school Warren would transfer to, Lopez said “you know his final list”, alluding the coin-flip decision between Washington and Texas. Others schools, including Oklahoma State received official visits, but his decision came down to the Huskies and Longhorns.

The key for Warren, his mother, and the Strong-Texas situation overall is if the head coach will be allowed enough time to build his program. Lopez believes he can turn around the program, if he gets the chance to.

“I think he can [turn UT around],” she said. “But [I’m] not sure the time frame will work for the UT fans and alumni.”

I don't know if Warren's mom gave this interview in a misguided attempt to help Strong by threatening to transfer her son if Strong gets canned. But this doesn't help him. If Strong's own players and their families aren't sure he's going to be coaching next year, how can any 2016 recruit be sure that Strong will be there?
