USCw and a few NFL teams wanted him. Market demands plus the money and exposure he brings in to the program with public interest generated by his style of scheme, etc.

The correct answer
A&M fans like KaiserSoze99 only care about attendance and recruiting rankings, not wins and losses, and Sumlin delivers both. They'd rather win the February recruiting battles and have the highest attendance than win a title of some sort.
