There's a chance the tree twisted as well. Like alahunter said, they should've topped and then pieced it down. That power line probably should been disconnected as well, hard to tell.
I did tree work for a couple years and it's amazing to watch someone who knows what they're doing. I've dudes make limbs do neat stuff to avoid houses, fences, etc.
