This is Ayers Hall (one of our very few older building) and that flat land is EXTREMELY deceptive since the way to get to Ayers Hall is to climb an ungodly hill (Ayers known as The Hill by student and alum). In fact, when the Pride of the Southland Marching Band does it's Salute to the Hill that building is what they're saluting. And note the tower shewing the checkerboard. THAT is why we have checkerboard endzones.

Neat fact: When UT needed to relocate/expand it was none other than Thomas Jefferson who recommended the Hill.

Its a rite of passage for unsuspecting froshies to get stuck with either guidance counseling on what courses classes take OR have classes on the Hill (not just Ayers) and to eventually figure out that they don't need to schedule classes there unless they're in a few majors. This rite is why the Pride turns and faces The Hill and plays to it. A lot of folks don't realize that.
