You are right on the mark. These hickbillies are throwing around fancy words like they can pronounce them correctly with no teeth.

They seem very defensive of this particular player, as if he needs protecting from others much more than normal players not infected with a contagious skin disease.

Oh horseshite. Ja'Wuan James (1st rd Miami) was the face of our program for a while. Represented us at SEC Media Days and everything. His alopecia was impossible to miss.

Early pic of Ja'Wuan James at UT (his hair and thinness all over gets far worse over the years. Even so note that his eyebrows are gone, sides of head show spottiness, hair receding in an odd manner):
