to reply to the Dawg fan claiming LSU fans are clamoring a 4-3 defense some places and a 3-4 in others is unfortunately correct.

We landed a couple of stud LB's advertising a 3-4 and seem to be going after kids that want to play in a 4-3 as well.

Truth be told absolutely none of them know what we will be running because the coach doesn't absolutely know yet until all the recruits have landed so he can make an informed decision based on the talent we have until then.

Until then, we will just go for the best players, and it's not a stretch to tell them we will be running the one that they covet, for if they come it just might make it happen

LSU really set itself back with poor LB recruiting under Chavez and also attrition of the big DL guys who could have made LSU a legit 3/4 defense. But I would expect LSU continues to run an aggressive 4/3 defense with heavy reliance on nickel and dime packages because we have the best db depth in the country. I expect more blitz packages and unconventional rushing lanes by the DL on obvious passing downs.

Most importantly, LSU should be a REALLY fast defense with the best pair of DL's and the fastest linebackers we have had in years. With Orgeron and Steele there I expect us to get our swag back and sign quality and quantity on the front seven in a way we really haven't in several years.

There is no need to apologize for being optimistic about the future of the program. If people are annoyed that the very top-tier recruits are buying in again to LSU now that we have this new infusion of ENERGY , so be it. If Gary came to Baton Rouge it would make a lot of sense for him.

Don't misunderstand what I am saying. I have noticed this. I think most, if not all programs do that to an extent. I am just surprised at the number of LSU fans calling people stupid for not putting LSU as in the top 2. I DO think LSU is in the mix. (You'd have to be ill-informed to count LSU out of any recruiting battle.) I just think the top 2 at this point is Michigan and Auburn.

Absolutely. A good coach tailors the defense...and offense around the talen he has.

Malzahn does this well with his offense, and Richt has done the same with HIS offense. I think Miles is going to a run heavy offense too, because of the QB situation. Now, if the QB's at all schools prove to be good, you will see a more even mix of run/pass.

The same can be said about defense. If a team has several strong classes of DE/DT you'll see them go to a heavier mix of 4-3. A LOT of strong LB's and the 3-4 becomes more prominent.

Assuming you are a coach (Your username) you understand what I am talking about. You play to your strengths and your roster as much as you can.
