Spare me. You're less than an hour from the GA border and an hour and a half from Atlanta. Know how far Athens is from Atlanta? An hour and a half.

Come on man, you're smarter than this. It's a MASSIVE advantage to be the state school when recruiting in state. Especially when you're the state school competing against a school from another state.

And we have played y'all, Ga Tech, UF, and a mixture of Tennessee and Clemson most every year. Unless you're going to give me a breakdown of all of our opponents over the past 25 years and definitively prove that Auburn has been fighting the most uphill of battles, I'm not buying the "our schedule has been the most difficult" argument. Everyone plays tough games at different times of the year.

Well I'm definitely not going to take the time to do that but you can look at schools all time series against each other and how AU compares with most other SEC schools and see pretty easily. UGA has done better than most with OOC scheduling over the years though.

And one national title to show for it. So either your SOS hasn't been as tough as you'd like to think or the voters must not have thought as highly of Auburn as Auburn fans do.

Well 2004 was just a joke of a season and the other one was 1993 and we were on probation, which is why I don't bring it up from a national standpoint. In that case we had only ourselves to blame. As to your second point that goes back to being the second school in a small state. In the only sport in the world where media has a major influence we are rarely, if ever, going to get the benefit of the doubt.

It helps to have arguably the best SEC QB ever (or does that excuse only work with UGA and the Herschel years?)

Sure does and I don't take anything away from UGA did in the early 80s.

No trophy, no claim (at least that's what I keep getting told when we try to claim the 1942 title).

I don't know anything about your 1942 but the people who say that when discussing college football are morons.

quote:

And we were 5 yards away in 2012. shite happens and everyone but you and I forget about the could-have-beens.

For sure, but that was as close as you've been. That was our 3rd or 4th best chance in that time frame.

quote:

Probably bumblefrick your way through mediocre seasons, an occasional losing season, and some really good years. Just like UGA and AUburn have been doing

Very possibly, and we'll never know but I'd sure take my chances.

In all seriousness I'm really not trying to flame. It's damn near impossible not to acknowledge UGA has been a major underachiever since Herschel left 30+ years ago. As a GA resident the program scares me to death because of what it has the potential to be and any given year they may finally start to realize that potential but it's not prudent to put up much of a fight trying to argue the underachiever label at this point in time.

I mean AU is probably the most inconsistent team in the country, I have no problem admitting that.
