Let me clarify for you.
The majority of voters voted to keep the existing flag design (The vote was 64% (488,630 votes) to 36% (267,812 votes)). I was in the minority of voters. I never said that the majority doesn't matter. I stand by the election process. I just disagree with the results from 14 years ago and would support another referendum.
The 1/3 population I referenced was the black demographics of Mississippi. I made the assumption that most of the offense is based on racial lines, but I don't assume that all those who voted for the new flag design were black.
Voter turnout in 2001 was about 50% of what it was when Obama was elected. So maybe there just weren't that many people who cared at all then. I wonder if that is the case now.
