Tickets were 35% to each school and 30% to the city of Birmingham.... very neutral 
Yes, Alabama won more there, but it doesn't take much to realize that AU would choose an actual home game instead of playing in front of majority Alabama fans each year with almost every usher, concession worker, etc. wearing crimson. Birmingham felt like home to Alabama for many years. It was never home to Auburn.
