Florida’s offensive line is the weakest link on the team heading into 2015. On Tuesday, the Gators got a massive addition to their blocking corps, as former Fordham offensive lineman Mason Halter announced via his Twitter and Instagram accounts that he will transfer to Florida, arriving on campus June 23.

Halter was a three-year starter at Fordham, making the FCS All-America team twice in his career. He’s a mountain of a man, listed at 6-foot-8 and 297 pounds. As a graduate, he’ll be eligible to play for the Gators immediately.
That’s great news for Jim McElwain’s bunch, as the Gators are in desperate need of help up front. Florida exited spring practice with just six healthy scholarship linemen. Roderick Taylor ended his football career due to a spinal condition during spring practices, while Trip Thurman, the only other returning player with starting experience, has been dealing with a chronic shoulder injury.
Halter, who played left tackle at Fordham, should vie for a starting job immediately. He’ll compete with David Sharpe and prized incoming freshman Martez Ivey for the job at left tackle, but could be a better fit on the right side after his play was key in helping Fordham shatter school rushing records last year.
