Alabama has had a history of turning good coaches into great coaches and making mediocre coaches seem better than they truly are.

Take Gene Stallings for example. The man had had exactly ONE winning season in his 11 seasons as a head coach. His career coaching record (college combined with NFL) upon arrival in Tuscaloosa was 50-79-1. He went 70-16-1 in his seven seasons with the Crimson Tide. That includes three Top 5 finishes, a conference championship, and a national title.

DuBose managed a 10-win season and a SEC crown. Shula managed a 10-win season. Mediocre coaches who somehow were able to produce Top 10 seasons.
