I'd say the biggest problem with your argument, is the fact that we've had more coaches win National titles, than any Sec team has won national titles. We are very capable of landing elite coaches. Or is hiring title winning coaches just pure luck?

Yes it is largely right place at the right time. Albeit with Bear it was right place right time to get him as a player rather than coach.

You can do things to help or hurt your chances, but it's a crapshoot all the same. Surely you realize how perfectly the stars had to align for you to get Saban in the first place.

^^Excellent point ^^ I'm of the belief that Bama helps the coach become elite just as much as the coach helps Bama become elite.

Coach Bryant and Coach Saban were/are damn fine coaches, but the unlimited support and resources they were given propelled them to be elite coaches. They were both men that used a firm hand and took control of the program. Bryant had no AD to answer to, Stallings had a damn boob for a boss and still averaged 10+ games a year with an 11 game schedule.
