I just googled. Early results are split between Old French and Sephardic Jewish etymology for the name, and the two have absolutely nothing in common. They're not even remotely close on the language trees. So I guess Croatian is as good a possibility as any.

You could have just googled Nick Saban and saved yourself the trouble
