I think it's a general rule, regardless of college town, that the good shite shows up as you leave.

No idea about 18 or 21 as I'm going on 26

But ok, just to the left of the corner bar, there is a staircase...it leads up to Rafters

When you go up, it opens up to a bar all around you, bar to the left and the right, stage straight in front of you. Large area behind you full of tables and stools with the windows open to the road outside. Pretty sure this spreads from above corner to above levee but not positive.

It's called rafters because the rafters of the roof are visible. The area in the middle has no roof and allows smoking

It's seriously everything you could want in a bar and I'm only here on a Tuesday during finals

It's a good bar. 21 and up but all the women are there. I can't wait to see it after a football game. The food is good also.

Listen to me, mother frickers. Cherish every fricking second you have in Oxford. Every second of it. I'm married now. All I can do is just look.

I went the weekend after it opened and enjoyed it. It seemed like an older crowd when I was there. Pretty cool setup and spacious which is nice.

I was there last weekend and half the time I was thinking "this is bullshite. Why wasn't this here when I was in school?"

Went Double Decker weekend. It was miserable, but what can you expect that weekend + new bar?

It's a really cool bar, will compete with the Library over time.

21+ only.

That's about all I can offer. I spent most of the time playing human pinball. It was $10 Friday night, but someone told me it was $50 saturday. Both nights the line was around the block.

I have all summer fortunately before I leave Oxford. I have never been one to pay cover for bars in Oxford but I will pay for this bar. It's the best bar set-up in Oxford, IMO. It's inevitably going to be crowded on most weekends for a while.

It's a huge bars though. It's damn near the length of the whole block so there's a good bit of room for people to pack in.

I think it will start to take a whole lot of the college age bar-goers from the Library. I believe the Library will continue to be the spot for people who come back into town and haven't quite graduated college in their minds.

Yeah, that's why I said over time. I think this college era and on could start to go there on their return trips

Agreed. I think it will change faster than we think due to football recruiting. The Library was the spot to take recruits. I think you will start to see a lot more getting whisked around to both bars now.

The Library was enough to impress many of the recruits that came into town. Having another bar of that caliber is definitely going to be much more appealing, I would imagine.

Went for double decker. Had a great time and the food was good. Fiancé came around 4pm and had to pay a 20 dollar cover. Wasn't thrilled about that. Wish there was one bar that could compete with the library (this one can) but not charge cover...

I agree fully with this.

Few bars in Oxford misuse the idea of a cover charge. This isn't South Beach. The bars are fun but not a single one has overhead so high that they need a cover charge.

In my case, I don't want to pay cover because it's a guarantee that if I go into a bar, I'm going to buy at least a couple drinks before I leave. The bar will get their money out of me. I imagine thats the case with most bar goers in Oxford.

They cleared out those crappy apartments that were on the second floor of that building. Knocked the walls out and made a bar.

Here is an event coming up at Rafters on May 16 that you don't have to be 21 to get in...... Its in honor of Cpl Justin Haynes for the Wounded Warrior Campaign. Justin tragically lost his life recently....Many remember him as the Marine that flew a Ole Miss flag slap dab in the middle of a war zone in Afganistan with the Pic going viral. Huge Ole Miss fan.... Proud of Mississippi.... Proud to be an American. This is bit of an advertisment....but Its Ole Miss related. Admin to Rafters 20 bucks (Cover charge goes to Wounded Warrior) Also that is a baseball weekend. Food, Drinks, Music and auction......all for a great cause. I encourage each and everyone to attend for good time. Click link

I went to the Library maybe 3 times while I was in college. I only ever went when a band I wanted to see was playing. I haven't been back since I graduated.

I admittedly don't like to get "turnt" at clubs, though, so it was never my scene.

When I go back now I almost exclusively traffic the Blind Pig. I miss the shite out of Murph's.

I'm interested to check this place out, though. The concept sounds cool as shite.
