The real answer is Ohio St. 2002. A horrible call after the game was over is the definition of undeserving.

Don't forget the refs not once, but twice gave OSU favorable calls against a bad illinois team that they got lucky to win. They also needed a 4th down play they themselves dubbed "holy buckeye" to beat a putrid purdue team.

In the question of "most deserving" they wouldn't qualify, because they did "deserve" to go based on being one of only 2 major unbeatens. But they damn sure weren't the best team that year.
