Marriage isn't a religious contract, it is a legal contract oversaw by the government, no marriage is legal in the country without first being approved and purchasing a license from the government.
Not open up you book and tell me what is says about obeying the laws of the land...

Ah, but yes it is to Christians.
It was a 'religious contract', as you put it, a long time before it just became a legal agreement. WAY before the government decided 'hey we can make folks get a license, collect a fee and make some money.'
Why do you think so many religions will not perform or recognize a same sex marriage?
As far as the tax breaks and crap gays were originally crying about not getting, heck let them get some sort of 'civil union agreement' and HAVE the tax breaks, insurance breaks, maternity coverage (oh, wait...) and all of the 'government' things they claim they want.
It will just never be a true Godly recognized 'marriage' in the eyes of many. And although God still loves them just as much as me or you and offers them the same forgiveness He offers me and you - I don't think He will view it as a true marriage in a religion sense either. Let the government and the gays view it however they want to though. Render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's, render unto God what is God's'
However, just don't ask me to sing at, or bake a cake at, or even attend a gay wedding. I will politely and respectfully decline. And I wouldn't be offended if they didn't want to take any part in mine either.
