Anyone here have experience in this area? I'm trying to get into triathlons and looking for a bike that would be reasonable for sprint/olympic races. I'm trying to spend between 300-400$ for a used bike or something from bikesdirect... Any help is appreciated.

Before I answer this question I must ask a public service question.
Spandex or Nay.

Look at your local bike shop for used ones first. Just bought a Giant for the SO on Tuesday to get into it. It's good to give them business and sometimes they give you a deal on tune ups if you buy from them. They will also help size you for the correct bike.
After that, the interwebz is your friend. I found my Raleigh on Craigslist from a bike shop going out of business. It was 90% assembled, and luckily my local shop services them. It's all I will ever need.

300-400. You might be able to find a semi decent used bike. But you're gonna have to drop at least 800$ for a bottom tier bike made by a reputable company.
