How much money did the City of Birmingham pledge to that stadium? UAB is the larget asset the City of Birmingham has - they should have ponied up the lion's share of that staduim - kick in some cash for facility upgrades and they should've backed the marketing of the Blazer football program.

UAB alumni, students, faculty/staff, Blazer football fans, and more importantly the City of B'ham were apathetic to the football program for too damn long.

I suppose the City is still broke?

2011 Bankruptcy filing Jefferson County filed for bankruptcy on November 9, 2011. Valued at $4.2 billion, with debts of $3.14 billion relating to sewer work, this was at the time the most expensive municipal bankruptcy ever in the U.S., surpassed only by the Detroit bankruptcy filed in 2013.

It is too bad that law makers feel this warrants their attention. Maybe they should focus on their state instead of the cause di jour.
