From Mayor Madeline Rogero:

quote:

Good news on Tuesday! Two construction companies submitted competitive bids to begin the Cumberland Avenue Corridor redesign and Streetscape project.

Southern Constructors was the apparent low bidder, proposing to do the work for $16.8 million - within the project's budget. Once contracts are finalized and approved, work should begin this summer. (KUB will begin its portion of the work in early April.)

The project aims to ease bottlenecks with a new traffic-flow design that creates new turn lanes and medians. The work also will bury utility lines, widen the sidewalks, landscape the corridor and add benches and pedestrian lighting.

Much more information given here -- WBIR

Great, great news. Really looking forward to all the changes and the much needed face lift to bring Cumberland into the 21st century.
