Disruptions to preplanned travel. Would end up being wasted school days, at least up here, because we would have at least 30% of our student and teacher population out of school. There was a poll checking on this a couple of years back where they wanted to see how many teachers and students/families had travel plans that could not be cancelled if we held school.

Unfortunately, you dip into the same things on Saturday schools, which we had to resort to a few years back as well. It becomes a self fulfilling prophesy: teachers know that a small % of students will show, so they don't plan anything worthwhile. STudents/parents know that teachers aren't planning anything meaningful, so they hold their kids out of school, just increasing the problem.
