Not to me; I remember Villanova as being a major player in the formation of the Big East back in the early 80's. Yes, you had Georgetown and Syracuse, and St Johns and UConn would come and go, but Villanova always seemed to hang around the 20 win mark and get in.

I remember Arkansas also, always a strong team (this going back to the SWC days with Eddie Sutton).

Note- I just checked Wikipedia, and confirmed- both teams seemed to make the tourney almost every season from the late 70's onward.


Dale Brown had built LSU into this type of team, but the Lester Earl disaster broke all that; since then, we've only had spurts.
