Chubb has everything Gurley has plus a little speed on the top end.

well that is simply false. For starters, Chubb isn't faster than gurley on the football field. I don't care what the numbers are when you line them up to run around a track oval, I (as have all of you on here) have seen every carry that both of them have had and it's not even really comparable that on the football field Gurley is faster. To Chubb's credit he did a good job of staying ahead of tacklers, but when gurley got past someone he was gone.

What else...well Gurley has proven to be extremely skilled out of the backfield. Chubb has caught a screen pass or two, but he hasn't proven to be the pass catcher or route runner that Gurley is. Gurley also has far more of a repetoire than chubb. MAke no mistake, Chubb is FANTASTIC at what he does, which is absorbing contact and keep moving. He's like MJD but definitely faster. HE's also shown that he can cut back when needed. But he isn't nearly as elusive as gurley. How many runs have we seen gurley be stopped behind the line then make a sharp cut for daylight? First TD against UF in 12, 2nd TD against clemson in '13, etc. We haven't seen chubb do that. Gurley had a deadly stiff arm. When comparing power clearly chubb is stronger (although that bama LB in 12 has probably never been hit harder by a RB before I would imagine). But when gurley put that arm out people went down. He can jump out of his shoes. Yes, I know chubb can jump, we've all seen the picture of him at the track meet. But gurley has not only leapt over standing defenders in a football game, he has gone airborne several times reaching for the pylon and turned it into points. I'm not saying "wow that's cool he can jump high", I'm saying it's one more dimension of his game that as of yet chubb has not shown.
Chubb also does his best when he is somewhat upright. Many of his highlight reel runs are having a full head of steam and bowling people over. You could have gurley wrapped up and a foot off the ground and he could escape. And for all the speed, hands, power, and agility that gurley had, the dude was simply athletic as frick. This run pretty much sums up gurley's game in one carry LINK. I'm not holding that against chubb, it's just that there really aren't many people playing college football that can do that. "We got him..oops. Got him now, no we don't. Got him this time, hold up. Ookkkk NOW he's down". That was gurley, looked like they had him, then he's gone.

Chubb is wonderful, he's borderline elite, and he should be a legit Heisman contender this season. But he's just not gurley. The only and I mean ONLY reason this is even a debate is because gurley was sidelined half his sophomore and junior seasons. That happened, I'm not trying to erase it..I'm just saying if we're playing a football game for the national title and I have to pick one non-herschel RB, it's Gurley and I'm not even thinking twice about it.

Good point, WG. I am not arguing on who is best or whatever, but from appearances Chubb will easily pass Gurley in all departments. Let's take their best years, for example (although Chubb was only a freshman):

Gurley - 2012 (2013 receiving was pretty good, though):
Att: 222; YDS: 1385; AVG: 6.2; LNG: 55; TD: 17
Receiving - 16; YDS: 117; AVG: 7.3; LNG: 23; TD: 0

Chubb - 2014 (only 1 season)
ATT: 219; YDS: 1547; AVG: 7.1; LNG: 83; TD: 14
Receiving: 18; YDS: 213; AVG: 11.8; LNG: 27; TD: 2

So, based off of comparisons, one can't really say who is better. Of course Chubb did that not starting every game last year - and eclipsed Gurley's best year. Any way one looks at it, there is NO drop-off from one to another.
