Seems like this guy failed to learn the most important lesson in his 16 years of formal education: How to learn from learning. He doesn't know how to tie what he learned into life.

Learning to learn is a skill that carries us from cradle to grave. Memorization is not the same as relating something we've been taught to another bit of knowledge. I would guess the poor schmuck hasn't experienced many "Aha!" moments in his life.
