I think those sentences make more sense when you take out the bolded part. If someone is the only one then no one else is doing it. That's my understanding of the word 'only' anyway.

But you have to be the only one doing it to begin with, otherwise you cannot be the trend setter.

When someone sees what you are doing and decides to do it also then it becomes a trend and you are the trend setter.

I didn't see anywhere in the article that Arkansas was the trend setter as it did not make any mention of them moving up first or when they decided to move up.

From the wording of the article Alabama and Arkansas could have decided at the same time.


Based on information not mentioned in the article that Arkansas made the decision roughly 3-4 weeks ago or more then yes they are the trend setter for SEC teams. But going solely on the article linked they are not THE trend setter.
