Believe it or not, Bama was arguably the best SEC team in the 80's. Bama won the most SEC titles in the 80's. Kentucky had been going through a down period with probation and Florida hadn't risen up to their heights yet.
When Arkansas came into the league, they were one of the nation's best under Nolan Richardson. Bama and Arkansas had some of the best games in the early 90's.
Bama has been as high as a #2 seed in the NCAA tourney.
In 1976, Bama came the closest (yeah, moral victory) to beating the undefeated Indiana national championship team under Bobby Knight.
There is quite a rich tradition in basketball that has all but been squashed in the past 15 + years due to three straight sub par coaching performances, plus our administrations' apparent lack of concern.
Perhaps there are a few fans out there that would like to see teams wearing Crimson winning games and competing for championships.
Maybe it's just me.

Those Bama and Arkansas games were great in the early 90's. I believe we won the tournament by hitting a last second 3 against them in the finals one year.
