Attempts typically contribute to it, yes.

Tre Mason had more yards and touchdowns than TJ Yeldon in 2013, and TJ Yeldon only had the slight advantage in yards per carry (0.3) due to Tre Mason having 110 more carries. That is quite minuscule in the landscape of 110 additional carries. Cam Artis-Payne had more carries, yards, touchdowns and a higher yard per carry than TJ Yeldon in 2014.

It is fairly obvious that the Auburn running backs had the better seasons. Both lead the SEC in rushing and one was invited to the Heisman ceremony.
