Midlands Commit Watch - Jared Mayden
Gabe Brooks
Midlands recruiting analyst

Scout names a Lone Star State prospect as one to watch this coming week for an expected commitment.

JARED MAYDEN
Sachse HS / 6'1" / 190 lbs
POSITION
CB
CB RANK
5
INTEREST
13
Analysis: He uses his size, strength and speed to get off of blocks and contain. In coverage he is not afraid to come up to the line of scrimmage and get physical with receivers. Those two quick descriptions of his game would paint the picture that he is more of a power player, but he is also a finesse corner in a way. He has a quick backpedal and solid footwork, is good in space, and shows a quick break on the ball transitioning out of his backpedal. - GP

The commit watch for the upcoming week is a big one, as it's the No. 1 cornerback in Texas for the 2016 recruiting class.

That would be Jared Mayden, the high four-star corner who has long planned to announce his commitment at The Opening, where he will be from July 7-10 for all of the festivities in Oregon.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Mayden took to Twitter on June 24 to name his final top seven, which did not include a single school within the Lone Star State's borders: Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and UCLA.

Scout considers the top contenders to be Alabama, Ohio State, and Oregon. One interesting note: Alabama has signed the No. 1 cornerback in Texas in the past three recruiting cycles -- Kendall Sheffield in 2015, Tony Brown in 2014, and Maurice Smith in 2013.

In addition to being Scout's No. 1 cornerback in Texas, Mayden is the No. 56 overall recruit in the 2016 Scout 300.

Mayden will team with classmates Devin Duvernay (No. 1 receiver in Texas) and Donovan Duvernay to give Sachse High School, just east of Dallas, plenty of star power this fall. Another player to watch is Mayden's younger brother, 2018 quarterback Jalen Mayden.

Thanks for the updates! Have been out of town for the past couple days. It might be quiet on the recruiting front until The Opening, with the dead period in effect right now. Any posted info is appreciated.
