Former Alabama linebacker Freddie Roach is returning to Tuscaloosa to join Nick Saban's coaching staff in a player development role, which was left by Chris Samuels, BamaOnLine has confirmed. The news was first reported by FootballScoop.com.

Roach spent the last two seasons at South Alabama, where he coached the Jaguars defensive ends and linebackers as an assistant. Prior to his two-year stint in Mobile, Ala., Roach was at Murray State (2012) and East Mississippi Community College (2011) where he coached the defensive line and strength and conditioning.

This will not be Roach's first coaching stint with the Crimson Tide, however, as he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Alabama from 2008-2010, helping the team win the 2009 national title. He was also a standout linebacker for the Crimson Tide during his playing days from 2002-05, and he was named to Alabama's All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
