Maybe he was talking about white people in North America, since the U.S. as we know it did develop and become a piece of land worth fighting over from a thriving slave trade (in part from the famous Atlantic triangle trading system) generally run by white people. Maybe he was concatenating the various societies into a continuum.

Why are the sellers of slaves in Africa never indited in this "white slavery" issue? While I am against slavery in any form, it is still a part of this subject. Black people sold black people to white people. Even Native Americans bought black slaves. My Indian ancestors were slaves to the Cherokee. They were Catawba/Creek Indians, but enumerated in the Guion Miller commission census as slaves. It is not just a white problem. The triangle of trade was slaves from Africa taken to the colonies, then, sugar cane to England for rum, and then back to Africa.

Because people never seem to grasp the fact that all Africans weren't on the same team Africans who sold other Africans into slavery were usually from warring tribes/factions on the continent, not unlike the many inter-European wars.

Not denying that it's a part of the subject, but people who bring it up usually do so in improper context.
