You can say he is meh hire, but Alabama's linebackers were still pretty good under him. If you think this is because of Saban or because of them simply recruiting the best linebackers to start with, hopefully Thompson and Muschamp combined can do the same thing for us.

To be fair, he's the best recruiter we've had on staff under Coach Saban in my opinion. But our best linebacking corps as a unit were in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Coincidentally, the 3 years he was at Tennessee before coming back to Bama in 2012.

He only coached OLBs in his last two stints at Alabama.

I didn't realize we had lost a coach to the Vols. Oh well. I see a pattern here. Bottom line, we were never gonna get past the first round of the playoffs with the LB's we had. Saban usually replaces departed coaches with a great upgrade. Thompson left before 2009 and that was a pretty good team. We gonna recruit fine. We need to be more disciplined and fundamentally sound on D. I'm cool with both these cats being gone. Now, if we could just find a place for Bobby Williams.

From his Alabama bio:

"Junior Adrian Hubbard and sophomore Denzel Devall led the Crimson Tide defense in production at outside linebacker in 2013. Both players accounted for three sacks apiece while Hubbard made 33 total tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss and Devall checked in with 30 stops and five TFLs. Junior Xzavier Dickson..."

Hubbard was shite. Devall isn't bad, nor Dickson, but none of these three would have gotten much, if any, playing time on any of the national championship teams. Nor would Depriest.
