Tell me what I need to know. I've been an iPhone user since it first came out. I'm comfortable with it and its functionality. THat said, the only other Apple device I use is an iPad that really the kids use more than me. I don't even use iTunes anymore for my music, so it seems pointless to keep buying an iPhone. Especially when I use Google for email, calenders, Google+ for pic storage, etc.

What are some things I'll lose if I switch? I know iMessages, but what about cloud storage? Does Android sync with your Google accounts? Are their apps comparable to the Apple ones? Which Android phone should I be looking at? I hear a lot about the Samsungs. I'm on AT&T if that matters, and I'm also not super tech savvy if that matters. I don't care about jailbreaking it(if you can even do that with a Droid) nor customizing it all that much. And I don't like the big screens. I keep my phone in my pocket most of the time.

To be honest, for what you're talking about using it for I would try to find a blackberry. I miss mine so much.

That being said, I'm sure their cameras are shitty, and the awesome blackberry's are probably not even sold anymore. It's probably some touch screen bullshite that doesn't work as well as the samsung or LG.

On second thought. Don't get the blackberry.

I hated my Blackberry when I had one, and I didn't even see any on AT&T's site this morning when I was looking at their phones.

The main things I use my phone for other than talking and texting, are email(Gmail), Twitter, pics of kids and dumb stuff, Spotify, Netflix and HBOGo through Chromecast, and calenders.

that blackberry they released back in 2013 was legit. too bad RIM had already gone to crap.

Spleen, based on my knowledge of you, i don't think a switch would do you that much good. Not a knock on you or Google, but honestly android is more complicated* than iOS and if you just are wanting to keep it simple, there's not much it can offer you that an iphone can't.

Now, if you want to do a bunch of cool crap like customize screens, play NES, SNES, N64 games and other amazing things, then yes go android.

ETA * complicated to learn when making the jump. I know you are an intelligent** man capable of figuring out how a phone works. Just didn't want to come off as condescending.

ETA ** other than your politics

All those apps are on Droid. Dropxbox for cloud storage. Syncs great with google accounts. Motorola RAZR's are nice reliable phones for men, or something like the HTC One if it's not too big

I have an S5 Active and love it. Probably larger than you want though. Yes the droid can do everything the iphone can and it is much more functional in some areas. Yes it will sync with all your Google stuff. Btw I have both company phone is an iphone and I really prefer my droid

Sold!

The more complicated doesn't bother me, it just seems really inefficient to be using an Apple device when all my other stuff is done through Google and PC's.

Not much from a functional standpoint. The consistency in the way iOS apps and devices work is the biggest.

Yes. It will sync with your Google accounts and you can back it up that way.

The difference in the way apps are handled is simultaneously the most glorious and frustrating thing about Android. Developers have a lot more freedom and the Play store lets a lot more stuff in so while there are truly great apps, there's also a whole lot more trash to dig through.

All (or at least the vast majority) the major apps have iOS and Android versions that are functionally identical.

Depends on how you want to use the phone. Android phones are a lot like the apps. There are lots of them and some are outstanding but others are absolute garbage. Check out reviews and pay close attention to battery life. Some are really, really bad in that department.

If you do a lot of stuff that puts a phone at risk, the Android world does have one big advantage in that MIL SPEC-810 phones are available. You can drown, drop, and bake them with little risk of damage and they don't look like they belong in an army surplus store. At work we've used the Samsung Rugby, Casio Commando, and Kyocera Brigadier with great success.

You can. It is called 'Rooting' in the android world.

Amen. If people want a tablet, they should buy a tablet.

I rrally don't like the iphone but our software we ise for bids and tracking job progress etc has apps for both but they started with apple before the droids were around and their app functions better on an iphone so that's what they give the superintendents.

Honest opinion from someone who uses both platforms:

If you don't like big screens and refer to all Android phones as "droids", you probably don't need an Android phone. I mean, if you just want to look at something new, go for it. But it doesn't sound like you need anything that an iPhone can't do, and you're already familiar with it. Nothing wrong with that.

Anyone who refers to them as "hipsters" would probably just want to listen to Jason Aldean. And there's nothing wrong with that.

What? "Droid" is a specific line of phones made for Verizon, lately by Motorola. All droids are android phones, not all android phones are droids.

Spleen, if you are set on switching, I would recommend whatever the latest Samsung is. It is the most popular line, as far as I know, and you will find plenty of support. Other models are more niche products, and from what I've gathered, that isn't what you're looking for. I meant no offense to anyone.

Yes I know. Who cares?

You should get off the world wide web. You probably call it the internet.
