Have a new coach come in with immediate success, but start to lose when teams catch on.

Or

Have a coach come in and lose early, but build a powerhouse.

What is immediate success and what does the powerhouse succeed in doing eventually?

Immediate success could be 1 year of winning a nc.

Powerhouse could mean continued success year after year.

Doesn't have to be football.

If continued success is like georgia and 1 year winning the nc is auburn then I'd go auburns route.

Does one end up leaving for the NFL then coming back to lead a division foe to success? Cause if so I want the other option

So you'd rather be frustrated every year and live off the success of one season.

In the modern era its the only rational choice. Everyone is so focused on national titles as the only mark of a successful season and therefore program value. Bo Schembechler was right.
