The number of games doesn't have a whole lot to do with it. All that did was open up bowls for smaller level schools like the MAC, CUSA, Sunbelt, etc. Back in the 80's there were like 18 bowl games and most all involved teams now in the Power 5. The main thing that affects attendance is how the team did. South Carolina and Miami both underachieved. Not many fans from either team is going to travel to watch two 6-6 teams who were supposed to be 10-2 or 9-3. Arkansas traveled well because 6-6 wasn't expected. If they had been say, 10-2 & 9-3 the last two years instead of 4-8 & 3-9 they wouldn't have traveled as well.
