I think you misunderstand. The point of his post, I think, is to let those of us with DirecTV know that we will finally be able to use apps like WatchESPN on mobile devices. This was impossible before since if your service was DirecTV, you could not use these services. The new deal corrects a long standing gripe with DirecTV for many of us.
(At least that is how I took it.)
