Since most students are out of town for the holidays the student section was filled with geriatrics that got in for free making the situation even more perplexing

Generally this. Also depends on how many old arse season ticket holders you're surrounded by who want to bitch that you're standing up at a basketball game.
Make lots of noise when your team needs a run or is in the middle of one.
