Finally, a reasonable Bama opinion. A lot of us were questioning sitting Dobbs until the Bama game, but from what I understand he promised Dobbs and his folks that he'd try to redshirt him for academics. After Worley got hurt he was unable to follow through on that promise, but he tried

I've heard that a few times. You can look at it from different perspectives, but it can get dicey making promises like that to individual parents. When you promise parents a redshirt year, basically you're promising them a masters degree. Don't know if that's true of Dobbs...some kids are at the other extreme and can need the extra year to make the adjustment to college academics. But when you start promising a fifth year, you're in effect promising them two degrees, if they're good students. You're hired to win football games. This was Tennessee's chance to end the UF streak, and although UT will be better next year, I wouldn't be surprised if beating Florida just got more difficult.

When a coach, any coach, accepts commitments from 30 or so players each year, kids are going to be "processed", for lack of a better word, either by a personal choice to transfer, or by "Circumstances". If kids believe in themselves they willingly drink the koolaid; they choose the program when they know some players will end up on the outside looking in, but they refuse to consider the possibility they will be one of those players. So, that's on them for making a choice with full knowledge of the situation, not on the coach.

Honestly, Dobbs was inconsistent in practice in Spring and Fall camp. Worley had balled out against Georgia, I can't really blame Jones for not playing him then.
