I sell tickets to games at BDS every year, and rarely do the tickets go to an address in either Alabama or the state where the visiting team is from. Agreed. But like any other proxy variable, the data provide a raw estimate. That being said, it's not a stretch to say that the distribution of ticket sales outside these states closely approximates to these data.
