This is a great hire. Wow.

Rush D (probably our weakest spot) was 25th last season, but pass D was 122nd

Yeah and their secondary was garbage. The personnel difference is like going from a Kia to a Ferrari.

WHere does this leave durkin?

I think Durkin will take the DC job at North Carolina or Texas A&M. Durkin met with North Carolina on Sunday and may have informed McElwain his intentions. Not sure if I like the hire considering Durkin did a good job at the position but I am also not sure how much of it was Muschamp. Miss St was 10th in the FBS in PPG and if he can do that at MSU he should be able to do that here although he did give up some points to the better offenses in the SEC. The odd thing is the reports that Foley told McElwain to keep Durkin and Robinson. This makes me think this is in response to Durkin saying he is leaving and not the other way around. Wonder how this will affect recruiting.

Cool. So, I'm unfamiliar with this new guy. What's the scoop?

his secondary was pretty bad at MSU...if we can keep TRob we should be good on that front

The reports could be wrong. Not questioning you personally just the UF pay sites seem to be more miss than hit on "inside info". Mac could have not liked something about Durkin or vice verse.
Overall it would have made sense to keep the core of the defensive coaching staff together. Consistent top 10 Ds don't grow on trees.

Collins is a good recruiter and that helps a lot.
We could use a Zook like DC that will sign a boatload of top talent. MSU obviously has been 2nd tier in the SEC because of stadium and $$, so coming to UF will allow a great recruiter to make hay.

I agree I dont do UF pay sites because most of the time that insider info gets spilled on the non pay sites just as fast. The report about him being contacted by North Carolina came of Twitter and Sports Illustrated. I would also have preferred we kept our core D. But at least if we were gonna replace Durkin we did it with a guy with SEC knowledge and a track record of being a good recruiter.
