My son is a sophomore at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana and has gotten interest from Arizona and Kentucky. Any feedback would be great so he can improve his game. Here is a link to his highlights: LINK

Thanks for sharing but very few people here know dick about football.
My advice would be to get him in as many camps as possible. The more coaches he is exposed to, the more tricks he is going to pick up. The fundamentals are going to be the foundation though, the stuff he can do on his own. Lifting, running, eating right.

I know some guys who went on to play at the FBS level who swore by the Velocity Sports Performance for their speed training. Others I know say it's a bunch of bullshite. It might be worth it if you think you can shave a couple hundredths off his 40 time.
Other than that, a really solid work ethic goes a long, long way. As previously stated, take the time and spend the money to send him to the football camps that teams put on in the summer time. I earned several scholarship offers when I was in HS through camping, granted those were AA programs but sometimes if coaches can see what you can do in person it will sway them if they're on the fence.
ETA: Also make sure he takes care of his business in the classroom. I played with several kids in HS who were D-I talents but either went D-2 or never went to college because their grades were abysmal, I also saw the opposite with 2 kids who went to West Point and GT because they had okay talent but great grades. If a school is looking at two comparable kids and kid A has a 3.7 GPA and kid B has a 2.2, it's really a no-brainer for most coaches.

Can any of you guys get his highlight tape in front of any college coaches ?

From that little bit of tape, I really like his striking and open field tackling... Reminds me a lot of our Mike Hilton
From just THAT, I'd think he would be seen as more of a traditional SS recruit because it really doesn't show him in coverage
I guess get him to work on improving his back pedaling and bailing out technique... But I mean hell he's a sophomore, he'll get that at school

This is awesome. I'm sure Kentucky fans can get hype.

Personally, no..no one here can do that. It's probably made it's rounds since you posted it though. SID interns are tasked with scouring the internet for information, and if college football information exists it winds up here. If I were a betting man a coach or two has probably seen this footage in the last few hours.
He's in a good program though at Rummel, he'll have ample opportunity to show what he's got. He certainly won't go under the radar playing ball in Metairie. Just needs to keep working and keep making plays. Could wind up at lsu one day

My cousin has been recruited since his sophmore year. Basically what he did was go to the regional Nike camp. Then in the summer he went to as many open college camps as possible. At the open college camps, coaches typically flag athletes that they want to invite back for their closed camps. Check into a recruiting service to get your son's tape out. Maybe you can contact the recruiting coordinator at whatever universities you would like to see your son go to, however they are flooded with people trying to do the same thing. Also make sure your son keeps working out after the football season, one of the biggest things that helped my cousin was getting a trainer. Now I'm not sure what position your son plays, but my cousin plays linebacker. He was invited to Oklahoma's linebackers only camp and he didn't go. If your son is invited to a position only camo, make sure he goes.

Take him to as many camps as possible this summer. Train for the 40-yard dash. It's that simple. It's not a complicated formula. Really do wish you and your son the best of luck!

E-mailing coaches is pointless. Go to camps and take it from there.

Like what I saw especially since he is only a Sophmore. I have to agree with WhistlinDixie because his feedback from the tape seemed to be spot on. I agree with everyone saying get to the camps and Sparq circuit. I personally think working with a group like Velocity can make a huge improvements in an athletes performance. The location near me has a program that does 2 classes multiple times a day. The first works on speed & agility for an hour which they tailor to position specific (ie. what they do with linemen is different than LBers or skill position). The second class is also an hour and focuses on weight training, specifically Olympic lifts where you get more explosive.

I can evaluate talent bro... I've been wrong with three players
Lavon Hooks
Q Mireles
Kincade (figured he was smarter than that)
To Kobi... Your boy will definitely pick up more offers, SEC offers at that... Especially if he puts in the extra work and the extra extra work

What if I don't feel like paying for a trainer ? Any specific drills that I can do with him to increase his 40 time ?
Posted on 12/11/14 at 1:55 pm to Kobi24
Some good drills I've seen that have helped 40 time is these two person resistance bands with bags on the ground to help with stretching out your stride and running with more power
But really, as a db, your 40 time isn't near as important as your ability to react and change direction quickly... So ladder drills and cone drills along with drills to work reacting under stress would be more beneficial IMO

Resistance running. Get him a parachute or a sled
We trained with parachutes when I played high school baseball. I went from a 6.9 to a 6.6 60 from my sophomore to junior year. I can't attribute it all to that but I know it helped.
Agility drills are as important as speed drills though. 3 cone is huge for a DB prospect. Coaches want to see the makeup speed but they want to see a guy that can flip his hips and change direction too. Box jumps will help with both too. There's a lot of drills out there on YouTube available for free. You're looking for "explosive" drills. That's the ticket in the defensive backfield. He needs to be able to get to top speed in a hiccup. Yoga and Pilates will increase flexibility and core strength. You can laugh but it works.
Drills are great but there is no substitute for repetition. He needs to work on his coverage as often as possible against a talented kid running a variety of routes. If he strictly wants to work on his speed then he needs to start running track at Rummel
Talk to his coach and see if he can put together a drill regiment for you and him to work on in the offseason, I bet he'd be more than happy to do that.
