I actually agree with this.

Same exact reason women shouldn't be officials.

You can study and watch all the film you want - until you've played the game you don't have a true understanding of it and have absolutely no authority to determine the outcome of games or championships.

BS.....Being around Jim Carlen, Joe Morrison, Danny Ford and Vince Dooley and too many small college coaches to count, plus tons of ex-stars, gave me a true understanding.

I will give you this: College football is a dynamic game and what a player or journalist might have learned a few years ago might not be worth a hill of beans now.

Take Saban, for instance. He prefers "muscle ball," but knows that is not enough against a team with a really good front four. Also, he and Kirby, defend the end sweep, so popular out of the spread, that it is almost unreal. I don't think there is another team in Bama's class where this is concerned.

Still, as you obviously, know, our eyes have to keep moving and not be glued to the ball. But I understand the game and have never played it.

By this logic every two-bit has-been who ever actually played football should have sufficient football knowledge to be on the committee.

You need bright, accomplished "big picture" people to make important decisions, not just prior athletes.
