Why not just get rid of "formulas" altogether?

Re-organize to eight conferences, conference champs get in. No wildcards, no byes, no formulas, no mulligans.

No. That would destroy over 90% of teams.

Look at the SEC West. You currently have Alabama, LSU and Auburn as legitimate contenders in any given year. No wildcards would mean only 1 program gets a look, and if someone is currently hot (like Bama in this case) the others are eliminated.
So- why, as a recruit, go to LSU or Auburn? Answer- you don't; Bama is the team. Or outside to a different region; like Florida St, TCU or Ohio St.

Dude, that shite made no sense.

Anyone arguing for wild-cards, should be arguing that State should have played Bama last night for the conference championship instead of Mizzou.
