the fact that Atlanta is the boss at hosting elite level sporting events.

What?

New Orleans is by far known as the best place to host a big event. You can walk everywhere. There's a reason countless super bowls and ncaa championships were hosted there.

Did anyone argue that New Orleans wasn't great at it? They are.

You can walk everywhere in Atlanta for events too. New Orleans is better because of the culture and makeup of the city, but Atlanta is such a good place for events for the exact same reasons you just named. And if you can't walk you can easily streetcar or train.

I would add this is where the airport issue makes the difference. Atlanta is a hub airport with lots of flights and choices. New Orleans is a non hub airport with limited options.

Things like the Super Bowl where airline trips can be planned well in advance are far different from SEC CCG's and Final Fours where airline plans must be made in under a week. In such instances, NOLA is not a great choice. There is a big difference between spending a week or 2 in NOLA for pleasure and spending a few days for a sporting event.
