Josh Melton guilty of being an a-hole, but not of murder.

That's surprising.
One of my friends was best friends with Gover. I imagine he isn't going to take this news very well.

Yeah. One of my coworkers was really close with Gover. She's crushed.

What was he charged with?
edit: I know what happened, but were they trying to get him for 2nd degree murder or what?

I really just don't understand this trial at all.
One juror went to sleep too much and said he hadn't really been listening to everything.
Standby juror comes in, then another juror says that they aren't mentally competent for the nature of a murder trial.
Melton initially says that they were "swapping licks" in a game like fashion before changing his story.
He admittedly beat the guy. I can completely understand getting in a fight and not meaning to kill someone, but if you happen to, then there has to be some consequences.
Alcohol isn't an excuse for bad behavior, and having admittedly been very intoxicated, this should have only added to the irresponsibility of what transpired.

There was likely something in the murder 2 wording that didn't work with what the evidence showed.
I know Josh from high school. He is a good person. I feel bad for everyone involved and effected by this.

So get this...
From what I've heard, the autopsy report issued by the state medical examiner stated that Gover died from a combination of complications from a life long heart issue (basically stating he had a heart attack) and the amount of alcohol in his system was deemed a contributing factor in his death. According to the report, Gover did not die from the injuries inflicted on him by Melton.
Just what I heard though so take that with a grain of salt.

So he didn't die from choking on his blood. And he didn't die from head trauma.
That's a strange case indeed.
