With the style of offense Auburn plays its gonna be more difficult to have a REALLY good defense than it is for other offensive styles just because of the lack of rest on the sidelines between drives. Part of Gus's philosophy is a high number of plays per game which wears down the defense in the 4th quarter. The problem is that it does the same thing to their own defense (admittedly at a slightly lower rate as long as they arent playing another team with the same offensive philosophy).

With all that said, if they are able to land Will Muschamp, then this will be a good overall move just for the sake of recruiting itself. You will have a LOT of highly ranked players looking at Auburn that wouldnt normally be looking just because of Will in my opinion.
