youd probably beat them

what's the point of having a ranking system then?

There are rankings based on performance and then Power Rankings based on the eye test.

Arky passes the eye test, but lost too many games to appear in the polls. Pretty simple.

I think Arky would beat FSU handily. Fsu gets absolutely gashed on the ground by teams like BC and Miami

I agree as far as AP Poll but one slightly related thing that I think inconsistent is how this logic informs the playoff selection committee.

In choosing their Top 4 and arguably Top 10 or so they have made it clear that, say, 5-1 against Top25ish teams is better than 2-0 against them.

However, they seldom apply this logic to the bottom half of their rankings since every week you find 2 loss teams that are 0-2 against top25ish teams being ranked while some teams that are 3-4 against top25ish teams are left out.

Yeah, they lost games to top 15 teams, this doesn't mean they aren't a top 25 team. Good Christ, I don't know why this is so hard to understand. Why the hell do we have rankings if its going to be based on wins and losses, and not who you beat and who you lost to.
