Any way you slice it this was a crap move by Mullen. Even doing this a month ago would have been much better because now the kid is essentially graduating in 2 weeks and his HS team in playoffs. If he doesn't win this weekend he won't even have another chance for other college coaches to see him play and who knows how many coaches can make it out to see him on short notice. He had a nice offer list long ago before he committed but who knows if any of those offers still exist. He also won't get a chance to take Official Visits or check out those schools if they are interested. The kid is going to have to pray he can still get a decent offer and likely has to take it with at best a very rushed evaluation process.

Virgil, who will graduate in 16 days, told 247Sports.com on Thursday night that MSU wanted him to grayshirt, which would require him to wait until the second semester of his freshman year to enroll in classes.

"A decommitment in my mind and in the media's mind is different," Mullen said. "A commitment in my mind is someone that is always going to come to Mississippi State, and if you are visiting other schools, then that means you are not committed, in my opinion."

When asked what should be the term for a prospect who commits yet continues to take visits, Mullen said, "I don't know. Maybe a reservation."
