First thing I want to say, and it is painful for me to say this, is that Gustav is doing to SEC football right now what Spurrier did in the 90's.

Spurrier didn't really innovate the offense. He simply brought to the SEC what Florida State and Miami had been doing to teams since the mid-80s. As dominant as Florida was in the 90s, FSU and Miami were still more powerful.

Gus Malzahn is simply running Paul Johnson's offense from the spread at a breakneck pace. It's not really innovative, it's just fast. That's it's advantage.

I agree. What he changed was SEC D's. He forced teams to get faster on D. You either had speed on D...........or you were chasing it against his O all day long.

I completely agree with this!!!

The spread is nothing more than the triple option and the west coast style offenses thrown into a pot, stirred together, and voila! Out comes the HUNH offense we see so many teams running today.

It's NOT innovative at all!
And the genius defensive mind that ever figures out how to shut it down will be a legend forever!
