You have to admit snow in the lowcountry and midlands of SC on Nov.1st is just plain weird, no matter the cause. This just seems unnatural...snow this early. I hope like hell this isn't Mother Nature's preview of what this winter is going to be like. I'm buying a generator..I do not want to be stuck without electricity for a week like I was during last year's ice storm. That was utter misery.

Not overly concerned. Anomoly's like this happen every so often.
In 1970 Columbia actually had a low of 15 degrees.
In 1972 there was a high of 88 degrees.

I remember that cold snap in 1970 ... but it was not snow.

A couple of days ago we hit 90 here. We've been in the mid to upper 80s for several days the past few days until yesterday.

But it just keeps getting crazier right now. The snow is actually starting to slow down and we can now see lightening and hear thunder through the snow to our north ... and it is the first time in my life I have ever seen anything like this. Lightening through the snow storm - it's almost surreal. And the thunder. It's just weird as heck.

I'm glad I had the big propane tank filled last week. I almost didn't do it. 500 gallons, so we've got power. It may be awhile as more and more reports of power outages are coming down everywhere here in Lexington County.

The other weird thing ... the temperature is actually dropping in front of this apparent thunderstorm that is now getting close - and the wind is really blowing.

No kidding ... strangest weather I can ever remember and I've been in bad weather all over this world. I saw something similar to this maybe three decades ago in the Tyrolia region of northern Italy just at the base of the Dolemite Alps around Cortina ...in the Beluno Valley, but that was at over 6,000 feet of elevation. We're barely over 600 feet here.
